Feeling Everything
The way a fairy tale can capture concepts and spin them, make you see things from another angle…I was thinking about the princess and the pea story, and how sensitivity in that tale is a mark of distinction. Then I found this bit on wikipedia:
“Researcher Jack Zipes notes…that the author makes a case for sensitivity being the decisive factor in determining royal authenticity and that Andersen ‘never tired of glorifying the sensitive nature of an elite class of people.’”
Maybe this tale can be used to reclaim that profound sensitivity which is so often denigrated. Perhaps there is some key here in the story’s progression. Certainly, in the context of this tale, sensitivity is not a liability. It is very the attribute that shows the character to be worthy of attainment. There will be further exploration of this “sensitive nature.”
